Pub Landlord Swaps Bar for Pulpit

Lee Derath & The Lord MayorHard working Nelson Publican and family man Lee Bartlett, stood up in front of a full house at St. Faith’s to share his view of his role in the community. After a great scene setting video that had the congregation on side he then regaled them with a talk that came from the heart on how he saw his role in Brentford. He was listened to by the Mayor of Hounslow, the congregation of St. Faith’s and Liberal Democrat Councillor, Andrew Dakers.

The Mayor had seen the entire job swap play out, whilst supporting Reverend Durkin as she pulled pints in a packed Nelson last Saturday.

Lee and Derath had pulled together again during the week before the Service when the heating broke down at St. Faith’s, and between them they organised large industrial heaters to keep St. Faith’s warm. The St. Faith’s congregation had come up trumps with a pile of homemade cakes to serve up with tea and coffees after the service.

It was the All Age service, so the church was full of buggies, manned often by patient Dad’s pacing the back of the Church and the aisles entertaining excited youngsters. The church band were bringing a great live sound of electric guitar, keyboards & drums to the amazing acoustics of St. Faith’s.

After Lee had had a chance to relax and recover from standing up in front of the congregation, we asked him how he found it and what he felt now about is and Derath’s community roles... “It was every bit as nerve rattling as I thought it would be plus a bit more. I felt so confident until the microphone was clipped on me! I now appreciate Derath even more and look forward to our next venture!”

And Derath, after stepping aside for the Talk in the All Age Service, what were her feelings... “Lee was great, the congregation really warmed to him as he shared with us from the heart, both in his Christian journey and in his journey to Brentford! It was lovely to see the church so full, and a pleasure to have the Mayor share both “swap experiences” with us!”

Catch Lee at the Lord Nelson to enjoy his friendly welcome, and 10am Sunday’s for a warm welcome at St. Faith’s whether you are new to Brentford, want to bring the kids to Sunday school, meet other locals, couples or families in the area.
